Winona Ryder (born Winona Laura Hornowitz) was born in Winona Minnesota. Parents of Winona Ryder chose her name after her hometown. The father of her Michel Horowitz and her mother Cynthia Palmer were authors and editors. Ryder's dad came from an ethnically Jewish family. Ryder considers her self Jewish. Uria Ryder is her younger brother. Jubal, Sunyata and Sunyata are the half siblings of Ryder. Ryder relocated with her family to Mendocino County California at the age of seven. In those days, there was no electricity. Ryder was a voracious reader and spent her time reading books because there was no television. Ryder was 12 when she enrolled at the American Conservatory Theatre for acting classes in 1983. She landed her debut role on the big screen in 1986, at the age of 15 young. Ryder endured bullying while in high school. Her hope was that acting could bring change. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Still she continued pursuing her goals. In 1993 she won an Oscar Awards to be awarded for The Age of Innocence.
